What is Cyber Security Awareness?
Cyber Security Awareness is an annual (ISC)² initiative promoting cyber security for the general public (communities, organizations) through educational initiatives spearheaded by our membership. To help support our members in this effort, we created a Web space in which members could offer the public various education/entertainment materials for download.
The History
This initiative was launched two years ago. The first year, it was promoted on the Website as a call to action to our members and few basic materials, such as a poster, were offered to support their efforts.
Last year we expanded the initiative to include a space where members could upload and share pdfs, presentations, posters and more for use by fellow members or the general public. To promote the use of this feature, we offered a voting system and a cash prize for those materials that received the most votes. Voting continued throughout the month of October, ending at close of business on October 31, 2007.
This year our goal is to provide a Cyber Security Awareness Center that draws increased participation by our members and brings more visitors to the site. We’d like to restructure the voting process so that winners are determined by number of downloads, rather than votes, but still allow a 'user ranking' system.
Overview
Last year's approach needs to be improved upon; a more captivating visual presence, enhanced tools to assist visitors and member and better backend management of the pages for our staff. With a more robust Website as the backbone of the initiative for 2008, (ISC)² will able to more heavily promote Cyber Security Awareness Month and make a more aggressive call to action to our members.
